Redeemer Lutheran School started its inaugural Chess Club this term with 27 members. Each week students would meet one afternoon after school and receive a lesson from Chess Coach Mr Mato Jelic, owner of Chess School SA.

Lessons gave students the chance to see demonstrations of moves or famous games, to practise moves against partners and to play in a chess competition.  In the competition, students played opponents matched to their ability and moved through the ranks as they won, lost or drew games throughout the term.

As the end of the term grew to a close, excitement raised as the players were vying for top positions and when the tournament ended with a clear first place winner and a tie-breaker game to decide second and third places.

Well done to all players and thanks to Mr Jelic for his excellent guidance.

Students are already looking forward to next term to begin the tournament competition again.
